Though some of you might find our custom crib interesting

A little over four years ago when my wife was pregnant, a PhD Engineer and Master carpenter worked together to build us a custom crib. You see, my wife is missing 3 limbs so we needed a way for her to access the crib. So the whole thing is raised up higher than normal, and has a door that slides open on the front. Because of the sliding door it has a clear plastic shield to keep little fingers from getting caught in the rungs. And then because of the plastic shield it has "airholes" in case the little dude decided to roll up against it. We spent a lot of time with them figuring out the exact design that would work best for my wife, and from what I understand the design had to go through a safety board before they got the ok to build it. (They were doing this through the Maryland Department of Disabilities.)We've finally decided to take it down, as we don't expect to have any more kids. (My wife's pregnancy hit some complications and we're not sure it would be safe for her to have another.) Although we plan on keeping it, assuming we can dismantle it without destroying it. Hopefully some day (far in the future) we'll have grandkid(s), and we've discussed doing foster care once we have a bigger house.Anyway, I took a short video of it for a SAHD group I'm in, and thought some folks here might find it interesting as well. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2HJ10DL
