My 12 year old doesn't want braces to correct a tooth gap. Allow him to make this decision or override his opinion?

My 12 year old has a gap in between his two front teeth. The gap isn't major but noticeable. His dentist has been recommending braces for a couple of years and would like to get him started soon. My son doesn't want braces and says he is fine having the gap in between his teeth. I personally would like for him to get braces because I think it will look better once they are removed. We have already had a kid go through braces and his smile is so much better now. He is glad he did it.We are struggling to find the balance between body autonomy and making a parenting decision. We have a younger son with Type 1 and we have allowed him to make some of his own decisions in regards to treating his disability so that is probably clouding our judgment of how much involvement we should have here as parents.Should we force the braces issue or allow him to make this decision on his own? Before anyone suggest it, invisiline is not an option for him. It would be more expensive and we don't trust that he would keep it in for the required amount of time.Thanks. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2pR0VZQ
