Would you bring a 12 year old to an adult only birthday party? Wife and I are in disagreement.

Firstly, the host said it's no big deal. It just so happens that this group don't have kids of their own.It's an adult birthday gathering at an apartment complex grill/pool.Parent 1 feels it would be good for the child to see the parents being social with friends and that it's good to expose the child to potentially awkward situations.Parent 2 feels the child will be bored after five minutes in the pool and it would suck to put the child in that situation.Thoughts?!
