3 year old missing birthday party due to illness- tips on managing disappointment?

So my 3-year-old suddenly came down with what might be flu Friday night - big fever, coughs, aches, fairly miserable all round. I type this from the floor of his room, where I’ve ended up for the night because he’s so restless.That would be sad enough for any little lad, but it also happens to be the birthday party for one of his best friends today.There’s no way he can go while he’s this sick, and it’s going to be devastating for him because he’s been looking forward for weeks. Any tips on making things a bit less awful and generally managing the fallout?I’m planning to get him a little toy or something later, and probably getting some ice cream in, but in the short term I’m sure he’s going to be inconsolable as soon as he remembers what he was supposed to do today.Any advice or just similar stories would be appreciated! via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2Gne15f
