Does my child need a 504 or an IEP?

My son (6th grade) struggles keeping up in class. For the most part, he understands the material and isn't afraid to raise his hand to ask for help, but he still falls behind. He typically spends an hour and a half working on homework, when it should take him 15 to 20 tops. He also struggles finishing his reading for his AR goals. His older sister, younger sister, and younger brother typically do well in school. Oldest (7th) is in all Pre AP classes and his younger (5th) has had straight As the last couple years and even tested having an 8th grade Math level. The youngest was held back in 1st and now her 2nd grade is going perfect.I feel like it's too late to hold him back as he already self confidence issues.Does anyone have any advice on how to get him extra time for exams, or extra resources? I let him use a calculator for his math if he shows me first he understands the concept, and that has helped him out a bit. We have also enrolled him in summer reading programs. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2hhJD1q
