Kindergartener is school smart and house dumb.

We are having trouble with our 5yo not wanting to put forth any effort at home in regards to education. He is a smart kid; sometimes too smart for his own good. His teacher says he is great in class and to the point where he is finishing before other kids and gets bored and distracted causing behavioral issues in class. We are working on that issue with the teacher. We had this same issue in TK and the pre-school he went to before that. Those teachers and aides learned quickly and created extra work for him to keep him busy and continued to challenge him. He did AWESOME.The problem is that when he gets home, all that knowledge and the drive is turned off. We work with him to do his homework: practicing writing his letters, reading his sight words, coloring inside lines with proper colors and pronunciation of letters.Thing is, he just goes blank. Blank stares, a lot of um's and uh's and tries to redirect to another topic or plays the "I'm tired", "x body part hurts", "I haven't learned that", etc. to get away from answering the question asked of him. We have tried different ways of asking/explaining the questions to the point where we get upset and give up on him because he'll just sit there with a blank stare or gives excuse after excuse. We don't know what to do and need help. We know he's a smart boy, but he does not show it at home. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2cxZGTD
