Why are the suicide and homicide rates increasing among the youth?

I’m having a hard time with this. I’m a new parent and work at a high school. We lost a very bright and promising young man to one of these two issues. I just want to know if there’s something I can do for my son to ensure he never has to experience either. I am almost in tears thinking this whole thing and I don’t have the answers.
