How was you and your child's relationship transitioning to pre-teen?

I am a 38 y/o dad with an 11 y/o son. I've always had this idea as he grew up that we were going to do things together, but as he comes into his own, we just don't seem to mesh and can barely be in the same room together, let alone have the same hobbies. The worst part is that it's not even him being an angsty pre-teen, it's almost as if it's mutual.Has anybody else had this kind of situation?
