Poop everywhere! A cautionary tale about potty training.

Around 13 months old, my daughter was really interested in the potty so we bought her a little potty and put her on it occasionally just for fun. Always following her lead and never forcing or pushing anything... Fast forward a few months, she's 18 months old and grabbing her diaper in advance to let us know she has to go to the bathroom. She'd even ask to go to the potty if we were out at a restaurant or running errands. She even pooped on the potty one or two times - although she did look a little freaked out by the poop. Since I have a few weeks left of summer break (I'm a teacher), I figure we pull the trigger, lose the diaper, and just potty train before I go back to work.We put her in a shirt and just left her naked on the bottom but still put her in a diaper for nap and bedtime (as she's still in a crib, is very young still, and doesn't EVER wake up dry). Day 1 we had 4 pee accidents, Day 2 and 3 no accidents, Day 4 we tried underpants and had three pee/poop accidents, and Day 5 (we took the underpants back off and just went naked) she pooped in the potty and had no accidents! Everyone, her included, was pumped! (Previously she pooped in her diaper while napping or right after waking up in the morning while she was still diapered.) She had been holding it all day on Day 5 so her poop schedule was a little off and it was firmer than it normally is but she wasn't painfully struggling or wincing to get the poop out into the potty.Today was Day 6. We continued with nakedness and were doing awesome! She tried pooping a few times on the potty but she didn't go, and then pooped in her diaper at nap time. No big deal. Fast forward to tonight and we're all having a dance party and generally just being goofy before bedtime. She's running around from room to room playing peak-a-boo with us (dad and I). She runs in the room and instead of yelling "PEAK" she says "Uh oh". Poop all over her legs, her feet, her sandals, her stuffed bear, the rug she ran on to tell us... There are trials of poop smeared throughout the halls of the kitchen, the playroom, and the living room. Then the dog came over and starting playing in it and eating it... It was a disgusting mess.I know #2 can be harder for little ones. Needless to say, we'll be wearing underwear tomorrow (even if it causes more pee accidents) so if she does poop it's at least contained lol. Any advice on poop potty training? Or maybe you feel like sharing your own potty training catastrophes? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2acDLjH
