Need Help with 16 Month Old's Sleep!

Our son is 16 months old. He's great - cute, funny, sweet - except his sleeping has gotten ridiculous lately. He goes to bed around 7:30pm and usually ends up waking anywhere between 1am and 3am and will not go back to sleep unless we lay down with him. I know the right answer here is to break this connection he has with waking up and then being able to sleep with mommy or daddy. I'm willing to Ferberize, but it's so hard to let him cry at 2am - especially when daddy is trying to sleep since it's mommy's night on duty, and you live in a tiny apartment where you can't block out the noise. We recently had to try the Ferber method for his bedtime because he would cry and scream unless we held him until he fell asleep. For the past week since the first Ferber night, he's been great and going down easily around 7:30pm. It's just the middle of the night wakings that are driving us crazy! So far we've tried the following to troubleshoot the problem, but he wakes up regardless:socks onsocks offa heavier blanketa lighter blanketlong sleevesshort sleevesa stuffed animal in the crib with himadjusting the temperature in the house (cooler or warmer, it doesn't matter)He does take a nap during the day. Usually around 12:30pm - 2/2:30pm.Does anyone have a recommendation or an anecdote that might help? I do not want to keep sleeping in the same bed as my toddler. I feel like neither of us gets restful sleep that way.Edit: formatting via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2a4KrAB
