8 y/o having hard time reading and understanding work, what can i do?

he's in 3rd grade now. english is his 2nd language and he's been struggling with reading since 1st grade, he was most improved in 2nd grade but he's still a little behind grade level. (this year he's not being taught by an ESL teacher though) i'm trying to help him with reading by reading with him but he does not like it regardless. he gets easily frustrated.he has to read 20 mins a day for school but anything longer he gets tired.he brought home a reading assignment on maps, and there were questions where received a 50. the teacher wrote "please follow directions"of course he didnt follow directions because he can't read some of it. i don't know if he was allowed to ask for him but it seems he didn't get any.there was a question about what kind of map it was (physical or political) the answers to choose from was given there and he misspelled it?? he also did that for others (misspelling the words)he doesn't understand how to do his work and i don't know what to do? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2vhdU9v
