2yo refuses to stay in bed

My 2yo has always refused to go to sleep easily, but since we have transitioned him to a toddler bed it has gotten worse. We made the transition because he was climbing out of his crib and we didn't want him to hurt himself falling. We have tried all the little tricks and techniques that we can find but nothing seems to work . Leaving the door open, walking him back to bed, sticker charts etc. The only thing that seems to work is if someone sits in the room with him, but that can take upwards of 2 or 3 hours. He doesn't need contact just someone in the same room as him. Sometimes though he just wants to play with that person. I want him to be able to go to sleep on his own. He has a night light in there and knows how to turn it on and off and has full access to it. I'd even be happy with him just staying in his room if not in the bed itself. If there are any suggestions I'd love to hear them cause the fastest we've been able to get him to stay in his room at night is just over an hour and it's just getting so stressful and tiresome. Napping has also been an issue since the transition but we've at least managed to get him to stay in his room and have "quiet time" if he's not actually gonna nap. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2qoAtm5
