Yet another ADHD post...what can I expect from my 7 year old's assessment appointment with her pediatrician?

Not sure how important this part is, but I live in Ontario, Canada. So my wife and I have been convinced since my daughter was about 3 that she had "something going on" and then by 4-5 we pretty much knew that she had ADHD. So we took her to her pediatrician and she told us that they don't do assessments on kids that age, but recognized that there were differences in her behaviour compared to the average kid that age. She gave us some advice and literature and told us to stick to it, don't get discouraged because it may very well be ADHD, and told us to come back after she's in grade 1 and let's see if things have improved. Her reasoning was that she wanted to see if/how it impacted her academically.Well things haven't gotten any better, they've actually gotten worse. So we went back and the doctor gave us some forms to have my daughter's teacher fill out, and after reviewing the teacher's answers, the doc said she almost certainly has ADHD but we need to come in for a 2-3 hour appointment to fill out all kinds of paperwork while they sit with her and do their full assessment. So what is this "assessment" all about? Do they do any crossover assessments that may overlap with ADHD like ODD or SPD or depression? I ask this because she seems like the kind of kid who wants to be good and listen and behave but she just literally can't seem to control her impulses or emotions in any way. She's always going at 100 MPH, she refuses to brush her teeth because she doesn't like the way the toothbrush feels (yes we've tried about 20 different kinds), she has meltdowns in the car if her seatbelt creates any kind of crease/fold/bump that she can feel between the belt and her body, she has almost cut herself around her waist and thighs trying to rip her underwear off because she doesn't like the feeling of the elastic waistband/leg openings, etc. She is often utterly defiant under the most "normal" settings when everything seems to be going just fine. She lies, is very aggressive and "hands on" with her classmates, causing them to start alienating her, she cannot focus on anything in class and is constantly being corrected for disrupting the class, etc,. She makes friends in no time flat, and then loses them within weeks because they're afraid of her.Her birthday is coming up and of the 15 invitations we sent out, we got 10 "no thank-you's," 4 no responses, and ONE yes. So ONE kid is coming to her fucking birthday party. She thinks she's friends with everyone and she seems to have no idea why nobody wants to play with her. I could go on for hours but I think you get the point. What's most concerning is that on top of all that stuff, she just recently started talking about hurting herself by going into a huge spiky thorn bush at the back of our property "so that she could get lots of cuts all over her body so that we have to take more care of her." Her words. Fuck.TL;DR - 7 year old daughter probably has ADHD pending further assessement (2 - 3 hours in doc's office). What does this assessment entail, and do they do test for other, possibly related issues, or is it strictly an ADHD test? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/28Z9yGv
