Almost 8 yo can't sleep by herself at night

Our DD (soon to be 8yo) does not sleep in her room by herself. She needs someone there to fall asleep. We just gave her room a make over (before she couldn't even sleep in her bed in our room, she needed to be in bed with us). We bought a bunk bed b/c she said she'd feel safer sleeping on top bunk. It’s been 3 weeks and she still wants someone to preferably sleep in her room in the bottom bunk. But that's not all, when she wakes up at night around 1-3AM she joins the parent on duty in the bottom bunk. It’s rough. She suffers from anxiety and has nightmares about bad guys breaking into our house and kidnapping her. This started after a lock down drill / active shooter drill in Kindergarten 😭. It traumatized her. Last week she had her first counselling session via FaceTime to address her anxieties. The therapist gave us some good tools to implement. Has anyone been in a similar situation and has successfully overcome this? I'm afraid we'll end up with a teenager wanting to sleep in our bed. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2JoLu26
