My family is relocating across the country in the middle of the spring semester. We have two daughters (5 & 7) that we'll have to inform about this move, and I'm of two minds about when to break the news to them. On the one hand, I could see how telling them as soon as possible could enable them to get used to the idea and say goodbye to friends. On the other hand, I could see how delaying telling them as long as possible could foreshorten the period of anxiety (leading to distraction at school) that will be associated with the move.
