Preteen embarrassed about crying in front of his teammates due to a medical issue. Doesn't want to play in a tournament tomorrow.

My almost 12 year old plays basketball in a competitive league. It cost money for him to play but we do it because he loves it and is talented. He has type 1 diabetes and had a game on Monday night. His blood sugar got low in the middle of a game and he fell to the floor. He felt it coming and was able to settle himself a little so he didn't get hurt before passing out but he still woke up scared. I went down to the court and he was crying when he woke up. His coaches and teammates were around him and we got him off the court. We went to the doctor and got everything back under control. He is cleared to play this weekend and has been feeling good. He got a new basketball on Christmas Eve and has been breaking it in ever since. He is normal and active. He has been hanging out with friends but none that are on his team.He says he doesn't want to go to practice or play tomorrow because he feels stupid for crying. He says people are going to make fun of him and laugh at him like they did to another kid who cried during a game. I told him that anyone who makes fun of him isn't a real friend and that the kids will probably want to make sure he's okay and won't care that he cried. He is very adamant that he doesn't want to play tomorrow but he made a commitment to this team. I don't want him sitting out of a tournament just because he doesn't want to face his teammates.Any advice? via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2QUpB0E
