It was gorgeous out today for the first time in ages, and SO and I decided to take our 22 month old to the big community pool. Where we live there's mostly old people and they'll occasionally be swimming laps or whatever but we normally don't see kids there if we go.Well today, as soon as we walked in the gates, we were accosted by this lonely little girl, about four or five, who immediately begged to play with us and begged to be our friend. We were friendly to her, of course, but I was nervous because at first I didn't see anyone who might potentially be watching her. Finally I asked her and she pointed out this old woman sitting a distance away under one of the canopies with a walker and said it was her grandma. There is no way this woman could have saved her granddaughter had she gotten into trouble in the pool. Several times while we were there, she would hop out to where she couldn't touch and start panicking and my SO or I would have to rush over and pull her back to the shallow end.The weirdest part though -- She also kept trying to kiss and tickle my SO which was really disturbing! He's a 40 year old man and a total stranger to her! I kept telling her that wasn't appropriate but she would turn around and do it again and giggle about it.She was also constantly competing with our toddler for our attention, pretending to "accidentally" splash her full in the face, jumping in the pool nerve-wrackingly close to where she was sitting (of course I kept telling her to be careful of the baby, she can't swim, etc.) and shrieking "HELP! HELP! I'm DROWNING!" every five seconds, when it was clear she was just standing with her feet on the bottom. The whole situation was disturbing. Oh, and when her grandmother called to her, she was like, "SHUT UP! I'm BUSY!"I cannot imagine what kind of life this poor kid must have, but at least for an hour we played with her as much as we could. I was actually kind of afraid to pick her up or anything because I thought, what if it's some kind of liability? I don't want that responsibility. But I didn't want her to drown either so IDK.ETA: Also wanted to add, we waited until another couple showed up and got in the pool before we left because we didn't want to leave her alone or she might have been in danger. When we got there, it was just us, her, and the grandma. I hate to think what will happen to her if she's there totally alone with no one to save her if she gets into a deeper area. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2KxQxPX
