I'm so proud of my son at the moment...

I hope it doesn't come off as arrogant to brag about my son for a little bit here..i just felt the need to share! Lord knows my babys not perfect. He can be such a handful sometimes and its probably just his age, he's 6. But of all the things i love about him, the one i can't help but admire is his determination. This child will NOT back down when he wants to learn something. When he was 4 he told me before the start of pre-k that he wanted to learn to read. So id begin putting sight words all around the house and then practicing with him daily on paper and by the time pre-k rolled around he was a reader reading level 1 books. He's currently at a 3rd grade level for reading (his teacher assessed his level this year). He told me in June that he was tired of wearing velcro and wanted shoes with laces. I told him he needed to learn to tie shoes then. He ran to the entranceway, got shoes out of the closet and brought one to me and went "ok show me please". He spent the entire afternoon looking down and trying to tie shoes while watching tv. He'd grumble and get frustrated. Occasionally take a small break to eat something and plop back down on the floor and continue trying. At around dinner time i hear him yell "mom mom i did it i did it!" And lo and behold the kid tied a shoe lace. And hes like here let me show you and hed do it again.A week back he went to visit his two cousins at my sisters place. They have a pool that they just bought. Brand new, large thing. My son oohed and aahed at it. His cousin, being older, knows how to swim so he was diving into it, swimming and horse playing with his friend. My son in the mean time, being that he cant swim yet, was quietly on a floaty and watching them but afraid and holding onto the edge of the pool the entire time. He came home bummed out and looked at me and said "i need to learn how to swim". My husband decided to take him to the nearby pool and start teaching him himself. My son looked absolutely terrified the first day(the most hed ever been in was kiddie pools) but hed go "ok...what do i do?" My husband in total has only taken him three times. Today being the third day. I just got a call from my husband and he goes "he's swimming.." Apparently today he took a deep breath and jumped in and did everything daddy had been teaching him. He's now bragging on how he can swim with his cousin now. Oh my goodness how i love this boy...Ok proud gushing moment over. Thank you to whoever listened to this crazy momma.. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2mHSE5S
