How to get your impatient kid's long hair clean without using the sink or invading the shower

I have a young teenager with long hair. She showers daily, but does a terrible job of washing and rinsing her hair. Before puberty it wasn't a big deal - she always had fabulous hair. But since the onset of puberty, the front couple of inches would look clean, but the back would look greasy, and it makes me crazy. I think she just gets impatient and her long thick hair is a lot to manage. We're going to get a bit cut off, but she still wants long hair. I'm sure there's a school of thought that would suggest that I just let her have greasy hair and let natural consequences (peers: eewww!) handle it but I prefer not to. She puts effort into it, but not enough. We finally came up with an effective way for me to assist that she can tolerate without invading her privacy or dunking her head in the sink. I think it also gives her an idea of how much you have to massage and spread the shampoo around your head to make it work, as her own efforts in between mine are getting better. We use a clarifying shampoo (nothing fancy, just basic clear, non-conditioning shampoo) for this.A couple of times a week I massage the shampoo into her dry hair, focusing on roots but smoothing it to the ends. I take a couple of minutes to do this and focus on the places she misses often. Her job in the shower is just to rinse it out - but now that she's felt everywhere I put the shampoo on her scalp, she knows where she has to go.Her hair looks so much better, and I think she also likes the scalp massage. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2W7aFLQ
