TIL Toothpaste Expires (Check your toothpaste, and Grandma's too!)

The kids returned from a stay at Grandma's house this weekend. We had forgotten to send toothpaste, but Grandma said not to worry about it, she has lots. In fact, she has so much, she sent some of it (Colgate for kids) home with them. Last night, kids go to brush their teeth, using the toothpaste that came home and start complaining. Kids complaining about brushing their teeth is nothing unusual, so at first we just told them to stop complaining and get on with it. They seemed insistent, so we investigate and sure enough, one whiff and taste of the toothpaste proves to be gag-worthy.Look closer at the tube: expired April 2014.If you had asked me yesterday, I might have said that I didn't believe the expiry dates on toothpaste were anything other than a liability CYA. For all intents and purposes, I'm still sure that toothpaste carries a longer shelf life (and shelf-life beyond printed expiry date) than most other edible products. However! I now know that there is validity to it, and you certainly don't want to be brushing with paste expired almost 5 years ago.Check your dates, and it couldn't hurt to call up the grandparents and ask them to check dates, too. Their kids-toothpaste probably gets used less frequently than yours and might just live on the shelf for many years at a time. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2C313t1
