Tick prevention for the upcoming season

Spring has sprung and a poster on another sub has reminded me that the ticks are on their way to wreak havoc anyway they can. We live next to some woods that have a large range of wildlife from deer to mice and everything in between. With two cats (90% indoor) and a dog (stays inside when we aren’t home) and an outside-loving 2 year old, checking for ticks when we come inside can be extremely time consuming and tedious. I still have the two ticks we found attached to him last season in the freezer in the event any mysterious illnesses arise and they need to be tested. We spend a considerable amount of time outside and live in the southern US where summers can be brutally hot and shorts are a must. The animals get treated and all that. But how in the world do I treat my yard that my kid loves to play in without exposing him to huge amounts of pesticides? I hate treating our yard with anything because it’s not exactly nature-friendly and not every insect needs to die because of ticks. Are there any effective child-friendly pesticides to put on his skin/clothes that have worked in your experience?I would love to hear your tips, tricks, and solutions. Also, if there is another sub more appropriate for this please let me know! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2HEumqh
