8yr old neighbor told my children she was going to kill them with her parents guns. My husband handled it his way but I don’t agree. Anybody ever deal with something similar?

Today my 11 and 10 year old son and daughter told their grandmother that the 8 year old neighbor girl and another child I am unfamiliar with but rides their bus threatened to kill them with their parents guns.What was said was she was “going to kill” my kids because she knows where her parents guns are and she’s allowed to bring them to our house. At this point I am unsure wether these threats happened on the school bus or on our property.Our kids play in the yard unattended and the 8yo frequently cruises the neighborhood alone or with a sibling. Up until now I was under the impression the kids got along since this child has been over to play.My husband text the mother and let her know her know what happened and also that her daughter was no longer allowed at our home and if it happened again we were going to the police. She said she would talk to her child and we haven’t heard back. He wants to give the parents the chance to correct the situation, and says we would want that same chance before the sherif and Child Protective Services came knocking down our door. We have guns in our home under lock and key and even though I trust my kids to never say something like that kids do dumb shit when they’re angry.I get that... I really do. But with all the shit going on, I don’t want to risk anything. I lost many close friends in a mass shooting a little over a year ago. I’m sure that’s where part of my anxiety about this is coming from but I think we should at the very least make a police report and let them look into it.Just don’t know where we go from here...
