Will you pay for your child’s third level education?

Our only son is only 5 years old, but my husband and I are already disagreeing about this.We are only going to have one child, and I want to pay for his third level education. Above all else, there is only one of him and so I feel it is not as big a strain to pay for him as it is for many families with 2/3 kids. He’s my only child and I want him to be supported when he is transitioning from teenager to young adult. My husband, however, thinks it is none of a parent’s business to pay for a child’s education once they’re over 18. He says that he was not paid for by his parents, due to poverty, and he still excelled.I think this is a ridiculous comparison, because he was awarded 3 scholarships. First to attend a private school, then to attend Guildhall in London, and then to continue his music studies in Germany. So no, his parents didn’t give him a penny, but he was a uniquely talented and clever boy who managed to study in incredibly prestigious universities and private schools, paid for by the government. So my query is, will you as a parent pay for your child’s third level education?(This is under the presumption you expect them to go to third level) via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2JEzXJF
