Help me choose 8 or 12 hour shifts!

I'm in a pickle.I've worked 12 hour shifts as a nurse for the last 12 years. I've historically LOVED them and would never want to give them up. I'm now in a position now, though, to take a dream Nurse Educator job which involves roughly 8 hour days. I'd like to hear opinions and experiences on making this choice.I have a 4 year old in preschool, and a new baby. Childcare is a real friggin' struggle (and $50 per day per kid), so 12 hour shifts have the advantage of only needing childcare 3 days/week. I also get 4 full days/week with my babies. Obviously irreplaceable. On the flip side, working 8s and making my own schedule would afford me the ability to leave early for school plays/sports, not work any weekends or holidays and also have something left to give at the end of the work day. My husband's a M-F/no holiday person as well. Add to this that I'm going to be going back to get my Master's, starting early next year.I'm inclined to think that 12s might be better while I have little tiny ones, and that 8s might be better when both are in school, but I have no actual evidence to support that.
