My son only wants mama

My son (3) is going through a phase where he only wants to interact with my wife. He's been sick and when he wakes up in the night I go to him. Everything is fine until he hears my wife. Once that happens he starts screaming the he wants mama. He won't stop until I leave and she takes over.I know it's a phase he's going through, but it hurts. I broke down last night after being screamed at and hearing my wife trying to get him to apologise and him flat out refusing. He was a little nicer when he saw me crying, but not by much.I'm trying my best and sometimes it feels like it will never be enough. He was fine today, but I'm all frazzled still.
