My Nana died a few weeks ago; I was so worried about how my son would react to this first major loss. I have been so impressed with his complete understanding of the situation, his willingness to talk about his feelings, his efforts to comfort other family members, etc.On the day of her wake, I let him know it would be ok if he wanted to say something about her. He said he did have something to say, but didn't want to say it in front of everyone. I told him that was fine and he could save it for another time or keep it private to himself. In the family car after the funeral, he announced he was ready to tell us what he wanted to say. We were all expecting something incredibly sweet and thoughtful. He says: So I don't believe in any of that God stuff, but even if it is real, how do we know FOR SURE Nana went to heaven and not to hell with demons? We were shocked and choking back laughter; we are not religious at all but a Reverend did come give a prayer and all that, which apparently he was offended by (????)I replied, "Well I think Nana was wonderful so if there is a heaven she probably is there."And he deadass looked at me and said: "You don't get to heaven just by being good; you have to IMPRESS god by fighting bad guys and enemies and she didn't have any enemies so ..... you know...."Gotta say; I'm relieved he saved it for the car and didn't grab the mic and drop that gem on a roomful of elderly mourners, lol. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2n37uIf
