Encouraging non-speech, yay or nay?

So I’ve posted lots before about my 2 year old having issues with her speech (she doesn’t use any real words) and have been taking care of that as much as possible. Speech therapy is too busy for consistent sessions, so we’re waiting for in-home visits. A few sign language words were assigned to use, but so far not helpful. I can understand her needs like 90% of the time just because I’m her mom and am with her all day.My question for you parent is this: am I allowing her to keep up her babbling, nonsense speech by responding to it as if I understand, and is that slowing any language development? Her pediatrician and ST told us to play dumb so she has to try using words, but she gets so frustrated she starts to cry or have a tantrum.I’m just kind of waiting for the “language explosion “ that happens to most kids right after turning 2. Her major development skills (like crawling and walking) have always worked out at the last moment before getting intervention, so maybe this is like that. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/31F8qAD
