Anyone else reluctant to scan your grocery receipt for box tops?

For years my kids' schools have solicited box tops* that had to be cut out and handed in, and although I don't enjoy the busy work we've participated. Now they're moving to a system where their app scans your grocery receipt and I'm kinda wigged out by it. I mean, I suppose I don't care if they know what brand of pickles I buy, but with the seemingly constant erosion of personal privacy these past few years, among with abuses of said privacy that have literally altered the course of international politics, I'm just spent on the idea of giving away anything more. Maybe whether or not I buy organic produce reveals something about my susceptibility to political messages, I dunno. Anyone else feel the same?*For those unfamiliar with box tops, it's a program run by some major food producers where the flap on their products such as granola bars, cereal, etc have a coupon-like graphic that you cut out and the the school collects, eventually redeeming these with the food company for something like five cents per box top. I figure a large school probably gets a few thousand dollars from programs like this, so if it's worth it to them (given how poorly our schools are funded) then it's worth it to me to snip some cardboard. Scanning my entire grocery receipt, however, feels like an invasion. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2IXa0r8
