Parents of teen drivers, how do you handle the car situation?

My oldest is turning 14 seen and has mentioned numerous times about how the birthday she is really looking forward to is her 15th birthday because she will be eligible to get her permit one she turns 15. It has been a frequent topic of conversation in our house. My son is 18 months younger, so he will be getting his not too long after his sister does.We will be able to purchase them both cars when they have their license (16 years old). We will also be able to pay for their insurance and gas, but I am wondering if we should. My wife and I both paid for our own first cars and think their is a unique sense of pride when you buy your own car. I also think it can make teens a little more careful since they are the one out of money if they wreck the car. On the other hand, both are busy and I think it would nice if they could just focus on things like school, sports, and extracurriculars instead of having to give that up for a job to help pay for their car, insurance, and/or gas. They have chores and will continue to, but we don't pay them for that sort of thing. They would have to get jobs to earn the money.I'm just interested to see how parents of teens manage to make this work. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2xV7vlE
