Anyone started hosting holiday get togethers at THEIR house (as opposed to the grandparents'), advice on doing it painlessly?

I hate my MIL, she is a raging stupid twat. She seems especially inclined to display her twatness when we are in her home so I really don't want to be going there for the holidays anymore. I want to host the Thanksgiving and Christmas parties/dinners at our house this year, mainly so that if she steps out of line I can be like, "Um yeah. That's not acceptable at OUR HOUSE." But also because LO hates being strapped into the car to drive around all day. And I don't think she should have to. I know the inlaws will balk about not having us come over though.
