This is a bit of a rant but it just happened not too long ago and I’m still reeling from it, so I really need to vent.My husband and I took our daughter (2 years, 9 months old) to the mall this evening. He held her in his arms and I told him to go ahead of me (he’s a fast walker) because it was getting late and pretty chilly outside. So he walks ahead of me and I watch as he crosses the crosswalk to go into the mall. There’s a car parallel parked to the curb, right in front of the crosswalk, who suddenly jerks backwards and starts reversing into my husband and daughter. He’s walking at an angle with his hip/back to the car so he can’t see. I scream for my husband’s attention but he doesn’t hear me. Then the driver hits my husband as I’m running and screaming trying to get both of their attention. After he was hit, my husband turns his head and sees he’s about to be run over if he doesn’t move so he jumps out of the way. This happened in a matter of seconds. Luckily, the hit didn’t knock him over and he was still standing - it wasn’t a light hit but he’s 6 ft and 190 lbs, which I think helped him not fall over easily... if it were me, it probably would’ve knocked me off my feet. After my husband moves out of the way, the driver (we can see now it’s a young woman) continues to reverse. She finally stops the car. My husband and I are in shock. We knock on her passenger side window. She puts the window down and my husband asks, “did you not see me?” She’s completely oblivious and replies, “no, I didn’t see you.” At this point, my husband and I are staring into her car which has a large screen in the center showing her backup camera feed. The woman quickly drove away before we regained our composure, so we didn’t get her information or anything.I can’t believe that she backed up into the crosswalk and didn’t bother to look at her mirrors or backup camera. Had the hit knocked my husband and daughter over, she would’ve ran over them with her car. Or worse - had my daughter been walking (she usually does holding our hand), she would’ve been hit and probably ended up under the car.My husband was shaken up from the hit but says he’s fine. My daughter is fine and thankfully the car never made contact with her. But I can’t get over how careless this woman was. This is an extremely busy mall and we went right before closing so it wasn’t as busy as it usually is... but any other time and there’s no doubt people would’ve been injured. I’m just upset at the fact that she could’ve injured a father and his child and didn’t so much as apologize or ask if they were okay.So a PSA to parents: be aware of your surroundings in mall parking lots or high traffic areas. Even when you’re being careful and crossing at a crosswalk and looking both ways - doing everything right - it doesn’t mean that you’re completely safe. Stay alert! Teach your children how important it is that they keep their eyes and ears open. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2Br6eST
