Hiking with a newborn

New poster here. My wife and I have a disagreement about when our 1-month old can go out into the woods with us for a hike (approximately 2 miles). The woods aren't particularly dense as they're in the middle of the town, but her concern is bugs; tics, flies or mosquitoes getting into her eyes and laying eggs, etc. My wife is a particular target for bugs, so I think that's where she's getting this worry from. I would just keep a hat on our daughter and keep an eye on her in the chest carrier so I could see if any bugs were nearby. My question is, are there any guidelines for this? The only thing I could find was this REI article that just gives a basic rundown of things to bring when hiking with your kid, not when is too early to start. Any help would be appreciated. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2xYIDWP
