First the obvious: we’re going to get her into therapy right away. Beyond that, if anyone is unfortunate enough to have had experience in this area, I would greatly appreciate any advice. The history...Our daughter “Ella“ is just 7 months younger than her cousin “Lucy”. They’ve been best friends their entire lives. Last night, she revealed to my wife that at many of their sleepovers, Lucy had been touching her private areas. Ella knew it was wrong and tried to stop her, but Lucy is extremely willful and manipulative, and coerced Ella into allowing it. For instance, according to our daughter, Lucy once refused to speak to Ella until she allowed the touching to continue. Lucy has always been Ella’s favorite person in the world, which makes this even more heartbreaking. That’s why Ella waited so long to tell us; she didn’t want to get her cousin in trouble. My wife assured Ella that it wasn’t her fault, and that we of course believe her. And like I said, therapy will be starting soon. But now we have to tell Lucy‘s parents; and we wonder what our responsibility is to other family members, specifically the parents of Lucy’s several younger female cousins. And I’m sure there are other factors we have yet to consider. This whole situation really blows, and if anyone has any advice we‘d appreciate it. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2xY2t70
