Halloween is kinda messed up now that I have a 2-year-old daughter...

I have never had an issue with Halloween and to be honest, I will still continue on with tradition and follow suit, but lately, I have been stuck on the idea of "What is up with this holiday?"My 2 year old daughter obviously has no 'real' fears of ghosts, goblins or bloody vampires. As Halloween has gotten closer and closer, more and more (really cool) decorations have been popping up. I was excited to show them off to her while we were in Home Depot recently but it really surprised me that she was frightened right from the start with the decorations. It got me thinking.. If it wasn't for Halloween, how long would my daughter be able to avoid having these made up fears? As kids, we all remember having something that scared us that wasn't even a realistic fear, but where did it come from? We weren't born with the ideas of ghosts and ghouls, so it must be something that is learned?I'm not over protective to the point that I am going to have my daughter miss out on the fun this year, but it's definitely something to chew on...Any other parents ever have this epiphany? Any parents skip out on Halloween the first few years for the same reason? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2iuzLVe
