Our son (16 months) just started daycare 3 days ago and it is wreaking havoc on his sleep. He has never been a fantastic sleeper but just in the last month or so he started sleeping through the night. He's always been an early riser too, so he was still consistently taking two naps a day. He usually goes down without a fuss and would nap anywhere from 45-90 minutes and sleep around 9-10 hours at night. Then he started daycare. He wakes up around 4:30/5 am. We try to get him to go back to sleep but it never works. We finally get him up at 6, get dressed and have breakfast. I drop him off at daycare at 8:00. He SCREAMS hysterically when I leave him and cries off and on throughout the day. They only allow one nap at 1:00pm. He only sleeps 30 minutes there. I pick him up at 4:00, we come home, play and have dinner around 5/5:30. Then he gets super cranky and we try to get him ready for bed. Bedtime used to be between 7 and 7:30, but now we're having to put him down around 6:30/6:45. He SCREAMS hysterically for anywhere from 10-60 minutes before finally passing out. Then he's up at 4:30 and it starts all over.Cue the weekend. We're exited for a few days to regroup after the insanity of his first partial week away. Everyone is super tired. I'm happy to be able to offer him his morning nap again so he can catch up on sleep. Instead, what happens? He only sleeps 30 minutes and then is super cranky! So we try the afternoon nap at the normal time: he only sleeps 27 minutes! So we put him to bed at 6:45 and prepare for a super early start again tomorrow.Sorry for the super long explanation and thanks for bearing with me. My question(s) are:Is this normal? How long will this last? Can we do anything to help him with this transition? It is absolutely heartbreaking to see him so tired and so upset and I feel super guilty about sending him to daycare and leaving him crying. I know every kid has to learn independence and to self soothe, but I'm also just really annoyed that our nice happy routine has been completely undone. Any advice/words of encouragement? Thanks in advance. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2eQOFkd
