2 1/2 Year old tantrums, normal?

If you didn't see us at the park, you could follow the trail of screams and find us. If my daughter doesn't get her way it leads to major meltdowns. I'm talking screaming, throwing herself in the sand and doing her best crocodile death roll impression. This is accompanied by kicking, noodle arms if you try and pick her up and "paralyzed" legs that don't work if you try and stand her upright. This means it's very difficult to pick her up so I just sit on the ground trying my best to cradle her head in my lap while she freaks out so she doesn't hurt herself.I do my best to tell her "we can't climb on the rope bridge right now but we CAN play in the sand, climb on rocks or go down the slide!". I'm unsure if she understands me since she's pretty non- verbal. I give her a few chances to calm down so we can stay and play but I tell her we can only stay if she behaves. Can't help but feel terribly judged by all the parents there. I've gotten death glares from grandparents and stares from others. I just don't know what else to do but have a cry when we get home. Is this behaviour typical for a 2 1/2 year old? Any suggestions on how to handle these? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2wgR1Q6
