How to help your child when they need it but don't want to admit it?

My oldest is going on 7 and inherited one of my traits - pride. I remember as a kid needing help with school work but feeling too proud and/or ashamed to admit it, and subsequently procrastinating and floundering in school. I'm starting to see that now in my daughter. As she's learning to read and write now, she makes spelling/grammatical errors. I try to tell her that mistakes are ok, normal and to be expected. Whenever I make a mistake in my own work, I make an effort to admit it out loud, and show her how I go about correcting it. Unfortunately it doesn't diffuse her frustration. How can I help her without my child shutting down? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2fKjmI0
