School supply lists are getting more and more out of control with teachers requesting community items for their classrooms. I think we all understand teachers are overworked and underpaid, as well as schools are lacking the proper funding. I don't believe any of us are upset about helping out, but my findings are..er..um...as ridiculous as a camel trying to tightrope walk.I took it upon myself to do some math (don't worry, not sacred geometry) to discover exactly how many school supplies teachers/schools are requesting. The results were shocking and, in my opinion, hilarious! My fourth grader's list included 3 reams of copy paper. That's 1,500 sheets. If there are 30 students that's 45,000 sheets of printer paper! There are 180 days in a school year on average. That's 250 sheets of copy paper per day. I really don't think that's even feasible to use in one day in a classroom! "Here kids! Our test is 25 questions, each question is on a separate sheet."My 7th grader's list was substantially less this year (yay!) but there was the curious case of 1,440 pencils. The list requests 2-24 packages of #2 pencils for each core class teacher. Again, using 30 students and the average of an 180 day school year that's 1,440 per pencils teacher! That's an average of 8 pencils per day. But the real head scratcher here is the caveat in bold on the supply list, "teachers will NOT provide pencils to students." I'm really dying to know what teachers are doing with all of those pencils. Selling them on the dark web? De facto Lincoln Logs? What are some of the most ridiculous items on your child(ren)'s school supply list this year? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2v4BkgB
