4 y/o about to take the bus for the first time, need some advice...

In just over two weeks our 4 y/o son will be taking the bus 5 days a week for Pre-K at his school. My wife and I are ready (totally not ready) for the emotional moment that it's sure to be, but we aren't entirely sure our son is.Ever since he first saw a school bus he's been wanting to ride in them. We used to have one park on our road and he would always talk about how he can't wait to ride in one when he's bigger. He's been excited for this for awhile, but now that it's a reality, he seems hesitant and is saying "I'm not going to ride a school bus to school." He does this often times when he's excited and looking forward to something, then when it comes time to do it he tries to back out and doesn't want to do it. That's not an abnormal thing, we get that, but we're wondering if there's anything we can do to make it not so much of a scene when the time comes. My wife and I routinely talk to him about it and we've taken him to his new school this summer a few times so he knows it and it's not totally unfamiliar to him.Is that the best we can do at this point, just continue to talk to him and prepare him?Related: Yesterday we went to a theme park and our son wanted to ride a roller coaster. It wasn't a little kiddie one, but it wasn't anything wild either. Younger kids were riding it. He wanted to go on, but when it came time to go on he started shaking and backed out. No problem. A short while later he said he wanted to try it again. I was hesitant, but my wife encouraged him and they went on together. Well, he did it! We were so happy and proud of him and he had an absolute blast doing it. We're hoping we can use this as an example when it comes time to ride the bus.Has anyone else been in this situation? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2xz5ib6
