My son is 3. We'll call him Jack. He's always been extremely difficult and defiant, but he's been unmanageable since my other child [15 months] became mobile at about 6 months old. He's mean to his brother all the time, often without provocation. He's always gouging him in the eyes, throwing toys at him, hitting, kicking, shoving, etc. We give Jack tremendous attention, one-on-one time, and all the love and patience in the world.I've tried various punishments--everything from time outs to light spankings. Spankings certainly do not work on him, which became clear after about the third try; we will not be trying that anymore. Time outs have been consistent since he was about 21 months old. He doesn't care about time outs. I send him to his bed now--he doesn't care about that either. I've tried positive reinforcement and lots of positive language ("You are being so sweet with brother!!"), but nothing ever sticks. I've tried good behavior charts, and that makes no difference either, no matter how desirable the prize. He doesn't listen to me anymore. I feel helpless. I feel so small and like he has all the control in the house. A 3-year-old is running the show. I never thought I'd be "that" mom or that I'd have "that" child. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2vyP6VA
