What should a therapist be doing with an almost-5-year-old?

About 6 weeks ago I started taking my son (5 in a couple months) to a therapist. He was (and still is) having violent outbursts pretty much every day -- basically hitting, scratching, or throwing things when he doesn't like what's happening. The therapist wanted to get to know him for a while before doing a neuropsych evaluation, which is what we initially contacted her about. That seems fair to me, so we've been going weekly. But she seems to have a single MO, which is to play a game with my son to "get him frustrated" and then help him learn to calm down.I have two concerns with this approach:1) When he's struggling so much with behavior, it seems really odd to deliberately piss him off at the therapist. It's also confusing (for me, so I imagine for him as well), because she wants to see him all riled up whereas I am more interested in finding a way to decrease the amount of time he spends riled up.2) It has been almost two months, and the only approach this therapist seems to have is to pick a game and then play it during the session. And she tries to ask him about times he got angry and why, to which he always responds that he can't remember. He's not concerned about his behavior, so the idea that she's going to help him with it seems completely lost on him.Is this what therapy for a kid this age is like? Or should we look for a different therapist? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2MPKxit
