My daughter (first and only child) is 19 months now, and just had her 18 month check up with her new Primary Care Manager (we're military who just moved to a new area so it took a while to get things set up, hence her well-child 18 month visit at 19 months instead). things went well, but I have been feeling anxious about doing everything wrong since we left the office. I understand some of this is my own anxiety issues blowing things out of proportion, but some of it I just can't shake off.Her PCM started telling us about time-outs and discipline when she took off her diaper (she was unclothed for a physical exam, which isn't terribly common for her) and tried to hand it to her (I think to get her to put it back on her, she thought it was to just get a reaction). I understand totally part of what she was saying about drawing lines and all, but I also thought that she was a little young for that kind of discipline, so now I'm worried that I'm completely behind on how I'm parenting her and am doing my daughter a disservice for not having already introduced time-outs as discipline. Then after some questions and questionnaires, put in a referral to Occupational Therapy for our daughter, saying she wanted to make sure our daughter didn't fall into the "gray area" on a developmental chart she had even though she was average in all points (I really wish I had a copy of that chart to make sense of this part and give more context too.) Also, I'm not closed to the idea of Occupational Therapy. I'm considering at least going once to see how it all goes, but I am confused why she just told us to do it and put in a referral when my daughter isn't behind developmentally from what she explained. So my questions really are:At 19 months, what are appropriate types of discipline/consequences? Is it time to start time-outs? Or are there any resources anyone has that can help steer me in the right direction?Should my daughter really be going to Occupational Therapy at 19 months?Any advice or insights is appreciated. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2QO0vwz
