Is it acceptable to give your child the same name as your best friend's child?

Hi Reddit,My[30, F] best friend [30, M] just had a child and announced his name this morning. The name he and his girlfriend have chosen is the name that my boyfriend has ALWAYS wanted to name his son, should he ever have one. (My friend did not know that.) I used to be very close to this friend and we are still part of a close circle of friends. My boyfriend and I have been debating since this morning whether it would be ok for us to also name our child this. I feel strongly that parents feel possessive about their child's names and that naming your child the same as your friend's child's is a no-go.
