Interrupting a Tantrum

What would your reaction be if someone advised you to interrupt a violent tantrum for a 3 or 4 year old by dumping a cup of cold water on them? Have any of you tried it? I was given this advice on Saturday and thought it might just work for interrupting the out of control brain without causing any harm, but have mixed feelings about the idea too. Does it seem too extreme? My son just turned 4 and has these epic tantrums still especially when he is tired. I have tried holding flailing arms and legs down so he can't hit me, and putting him in his room and holding the door closed again so he can't get toe to hurt me, but honestly neither are very effective. One causes him to be isolated and maybe break stuff in his room, and another causes a massive physical power struggle that doesn't seem sustainable and sometimes causes him to say it's hurting him... so I am open to trying just about anything. Other suggestions are totally welcome too! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2plyqR2
