7 year old boy.. How often should he be showering?

My son is 7 years old. He is deathly afraid of water and showering/bathing is a very difficult task. He is starting to do okay with swimming (As long as his head isn't underwater, so we splash him a little bit) so he goes swimming once a week at his grandparents house. But, as it stands, he showers about twice a week. He doesn't stink or sweat all that much. Is that okay or does he need to be showering more?I am trying my hardest to get to him to understand that showering is okay and can be fun but it's very difficult.
