Explaining Health Problems to Kindergarteners

I have a 5 yo son who just started Kindergarten in September. So far he’s loving it but we are running into a small problem. He was born with severely clubbed feet and although they have been corrected to a degree we are now finding out they were caused by some form of muscular problem that has left him with severely contracted feet, low muscle tone and balance issues. He uses a wheelchair sometimes and gets spontaneous fractures. His teacher emailed us last week saying that he had asked a little girl in class for a hand down from this loft thing they have in the classroom when he normally either asks her or goes down on his bum and she helped a little too enthusiastically and he almost fell. His teacher wants to explain to the class that he has balance and mobility issues to prevent him getting hurt but he really doesn’t want to be pointed out. We sat and talked with him about it and he doesn’t want to be left out or made fun of just because of his “dumb” feet.We are trying to find a happy medium of keeping him safe and respecting his wishes and are searching for any ideas that may help.We have told him that he needs to either do things himself or ask his teacher for help but we are at a loss for what else to do and would love some suggestions if anyone has any? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2gCd7K0
