Child telling what he sees in the dark room

My 2,5 y.o. sometimes at night, when he wakes up, asks me about different things he sees in his room. I tell him what is where he's pointing but he usually doesn't look happy with my answers. He told me about some lady, about something with wings, flying and some colours (it was very dark). I heard many simmilar stories about kids aged 2-3 y.o. Imaginary friends? I wonder what can it be. Is it because undeveloped brain, beeing imaginative, sounds? (I don't believe in anything paranormal.) What are Your stories?
