What I wish I'd known before my kid started scouting

Hey parents! As school gets started for many of us, extracurricular activities are starting up too, including scouting. I'm a Girl Scout leader getting ready to start my second year in charge. The troop sort of fell into my lap part way through last year, and it was kind of a nightmare for everyone except the girls. This year, I'd like to avoid that. Scouting should be fun for the kids and pleasant (or at least not unpleasant) for their families. I'd like to hear about your scouting experiences, good or bad, to get an idea of what helps parents, and what drives people bananas. So if you've had a child who did scouting (Boy or Girl), have lead a troop, or did scouting when you were younger, I would love to hear what you felt worked and what didn't. Thanks! via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2xGeKxx
