My little was born early at 2 lbs. 14 oz. He didn't have a ton of serious complications, but he struggled with desaturation and bradycardia quite often. He was put on IV caffeine citrate, which apparently stimulates the brain of a preemie so that they will remember to breathe. He inevitably became addicted, and was weened off right before leaving the hospital. He has literally never been able to sit still. Ever. Even as he falls asleep he taps his feet, crosses and uncrosses his legs, and moves his hands constantly until he passes out.Are there any other parents who have a child that had to be given the caffeine and are not able to sit still whatsoever? I know kids are wiggly, but he is five now and can't sit still for even a minute. He doesn't have trouble concentrating, so I'm reluctant to listen to the doctors who automatically say ADHD. He is doing really well in school, but always has to be moving part of his body.I'm wondering if the caffeine had long-term effects on his underdeveloped brain. I have been researching long-term adverse effects, but can only find physical abnormalities so far.Any info is appreciated. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2xrhw8p
