How do you get parenting advice?

We are parents to a 5-year old boy, and we've noticed that we get lots of advice when we don't need it, about things that aren't giving us problems. Basically, when we tell stories or anecdotes, we get advice. When we ask for advice, we don't get anything helpful. To be clear, some people think they are offering advice. For example, I asked a friend with well-behaved children for advice on discipline and he said, "be strong" which may be good advice, but I have a feeling it only makes sense once you have mastered discipline.Sadly, my own parents are the worst. Most of the time, their responses are just laughter and some glib response about how I'm getting payback or something. They aren't mean. They are joking, but it still isn't helpful.Getting advice as a parent is like getting a loan from a bank. When you need one you can't get one, and when you don't need any you get lots of offers. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2xkxLCp
